Crowley Eliminates White Patches on the Internet Map
Crowley Data Poland will build a broadband backbone network and public Internet access points in the town and municipality of Glinojeck. The contract is worth of nearly PLN 3.5m and the EU grants may cover up to 85% of this figure. This is a yet another project of this kind carried out with the use of the EU funding.
Local self-governments have been increasingly using the EU Structural Funds to bridge gaps in the regional telecommunication infrastructure. Based on experience in deploying wireless networks, Crowley Data Poland actively supports local authorities in these efforts. Under the new project, CDP will connect the town and municipality of Glinojeck to Internet. According to the plans, all public institutions (including schools) in this area will be connected to broadband network. Special Internet kiosks and Wi-Fi transmitters located on the area covering over 70% of the urbanized part of the municipality will provide access to the Internet. In the future, it will be also possible to connect about 90% of the households to the Internet on a commercial basis using the backbone network which is under construction now.
Thanks to the VoIP solutions provided via a broadband infrastructure the telephone calls between local governments will made be free-of-charge, which will significantly reduce their expenses on telecommunication. At present, a significant part of the Glinojeck community population finds it difficult to access Internet both for technical and economic considerations. This problem, consequently, has a negative impact on local entrepreneurs who have a difficulty in reaching potential customers.
“We take action instead of pointlessly discussing the shortcomings of the network infrastructure”. We are a forerunner in using the EU funds for deploying the local ICT infrastructure” said Grzegorz Cieslik, Director of Regional Networks in Crowley Data Poland – “The radio networks are the most effective and promising solution for Internet connectivity in sparsely urbanized areas. We have a considerable deal of experience in their deployment.” – he added.
